Photos Tour of Galway City.Galway has many attractions for the visitors who come to the ancient city from all over the world. Most visitors to Galway will be familiar with Eyre Square and the Galway Hooker Monument in the Centre of Galway City. This is an ideal place to start your tour of Galway.Starting at Eyre Square you can walk down through the main shopping area Shop Street where you will pass the 14th century Lynches Castle on the right. At the bottom of Shop St. turn right for St Nicholas Church which dates back to 1320. On the outer walls of St Nicholas Church you can also find Browns Doorway where the sitting mayor hanged his son. When your finished in St Nicholas Church go back again towards Shop St and head for Quay Street which is a well known late night entertainment spot with lots of Pubs and Restaurants. Continue to the end of Quay Street and you will come to Spanish Arch which dates back to 1584 where you can also visit The Galway Museum. Across from Spanish Arch and over the River Corrib at Wolf Tone Bridge you can see the Claddagh which is one of the oldest areas in Galway dating back to the 5th century. From The Claddagh come back over Wolf Tone Bridge and take the riverside walkway on the left of Jurys Hotel. Follow this walkway along the river bank of River Corrib across O'Briens Bridge and you will arrive at the Salmon Weir Bridge where the you can visit Galway Catheral which opened in 1965. Galway Catheral is one of the finest Cathedrals in Ireland. To complete you tour of Galway you can continue to the Waterside in Woodquay and finish by walking the short distance through Eglington St and back to Eyre Square again. |
