Connemara which was originally called Conmaicnemara, Irish for “Tribe of Cormac”, is an area of county Galway located on the West Coast of Ireland between Galway City and the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the most scenic spots in Ireland with its rugged landscapes. The Twelve Bens range of mountains dominate the skyline in Connemara and they have the popular town of Clifden in their shadow. As you travel through Connemara you will experience the unspoilt scenery amid its vast network of lakes, mountains and peaceful sandy beaches. Its unspoilt landscape has inspired many famous paintings and literary works over the years. Gladly you will find a lot of the old Irish traditions being preserved in Connemara. The Irish language is still spoken by many of the locals and it is rich in its musical and folklore heritage. Many tourists visit Connemara for its excellent fishing on Lough Corrib where there is an abundance of salmon and brown trout. Clifden is the centre of attraction annually in August for the international horse breeders and buyers where The Connemara Pony Show and Sales are held.
