Photo Tour of Connemara.

Starting in Galway take the N59 towards Moycullen where you can stop for a coffee or pub grub at The Forge or an evening meal at the award winning White Gables Restaurant. Continue a further 10 miles to Oughterard which is a popular holiday location for anglers wishing to take advantage of the excellent trout and salmon fishing on Lough Corrib.

Daily trips of Lough Corrib can be booked at Oughterard Pier. For those who wish to stay on dry land you can visit Aughanure Castle which was built by the O'Flaherty family around 1500 or enjoy a game of golf at Oughterard Golf Club. If you need a break The Boat Inn is a very popular pub for food and drink. Continue through the main street, over the bridge past the picnic area on the left and about 10 miles further on you will come to Maam Cross where Peacocks Hotel offers another option for a snack or drink.

You can also browse around the Craft Shop for some souviners. There is a cottage you can visit showing what a typical dwelling house looked like in the old days. Turn right at Maam Cross along the R336 and you travel through some spectacular Connemara Scenery to Maum where there is another pub called Keanes. Turn left in Maum onto the R336 and travel 10 miles to the beautiful village of Leenane with its spectacular views of Killary Harbour.

Leenane has a famous pub called Gaynors or “The Field Bar” where you can enjoy a drink or pub grub. Across the road is the The Forge Craft Shop for souviners of your visit to Connemara. Another place for something to eat is the Blackberry Restaurant and Cafe. Continue on the N59 towards Kylemore Abbey where you can go on a tour of the Abbey and Gardens and dine in their adjoining restaurant. About 4 miles further on the N59 you come to Letterfrack where you can visit the Connemara National Park.

Clifden is about 10 miles further along the N59 and is the town where a lot of tourists stay while visiting Connemara. Connemara has four ranges of mountains called the Twelve Bens, Maum Turks, Partry and Sheffrey. Clifden has a wide variety of excellent seafood restaurants and pub grub establishmentsand pubs where you can sample the craic and traditional irish music. Amongst the tourist attractions in Clifden is the Allcock and Brown Monument commerating the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean in June 1919.

Another tourist attraction is The Connemara Heritage Centre just 5 miles from Clifden on the N59 towards Galway where you will be brought on a tour of Dan O’Haras cottage or enjoy a meal or snack in the restaurant. About 12 miles from Clifden on the N59 turn left onto the R344 where you can enjoy the spectacular views of Inagh Valley and have a snack in the Inagh Hotel. Return back along the R344 and turn left onto the N59 through Recess. You will then return to Maam Cross, Oughterard and Moycullen and arrive back to Galway.
